SSG Michael Cox joined the Army in 2002 in Chicago, IL. He attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, SC. From there he went to AIT at Fort Meade, MD. SSG Cox’s first duty assignment was at AFN Korea 2003-2004. While there he was stationed in area 1 at AFN Uijongbu and AFN Casey. In December 2004 SSG Cox PCS’d to Fort Carson, CO and was the broadcaster for the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division Public Affairs Office. SSG Cox deployed to Iraq twice in support of OIF. OIF 05-06 and 07-09 (stop/ loss for 19 months) with 3rd Brigade. In May 2009 SSG Cox reenlisted for four years and came to AFN Benelux in September 2009 where he serves as the news director.

 

SSG Cox has B.A. in film from Columbia College Chicago 1996, and plans on starting his Masters Degree in the fall.

 

SSG Cox’s hobbies include making music (Has been playing bass for 23 years), running, drawing and collecting record LPs.
